Responsible Coaching Movement

The KLSC has taken the Responsible Coaching Movement pledge. We are committed to practices including the Rule of Two, Ethics Training, and Background Screening to ensure that we are providing an environment for our athletes that is SAFE, SMART, and SECURE.

Applying to Coach

Coaching applications are now being accepted for our 2026 Inferno teams. Please see the information for each age group below for more specific details.

Youth Competitive (Rep) Teams (U14-U18) - Head coaches have been selected for all teams.  Assistant coach applications are still being accepted at this time, and assistant coaches will be named in consultation with the head coach.

Youth Development (Rep) Teams (U10-U13) - Head coaches have been selected for all of our first teams, but we are still looking for second team head coaches for our U13 Boys. Assistant coach applications are also being accepted at this time, and assistant coaches will be named in consultation with the head coach.

Youth Fundamentals Teams (U5-U9) - Coaching applications are now being accepted for this age group. Coaching selections will be made at a later date.

If you are a new or returning Inferno Coach, please do the following:

  • Login To PowerUp. You will need to create a profile for yourself first on PowerUp if you have not already done so.
  • On the left hand side, click the 'Get Involved' button and then click on 'Team Official Application'
  • Fill out the application and click 'Submit'

Coaching Certification

All coaches (including assistant coaches) MUST complete the following requirements. Coaches may not be on the team bench during a game unless all of these steps are completed. The club will reimburse the cost of the courses when a coach has completed all requirements and is on the team roster.

*Managers of U9-U18 Inferno teams must also complete the Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders course, as well as Making Ethical Decisions and Making Headway. 

How to complete these steps...

*the information and instructions below are numbered to match the chart above

1 - Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening

  • initial CRC must be recent (within 12 months)
  • your CRC expires after 2 years
  • contact our club administrator to receive a letter that identifies you as a KLSC volunteer for your CRC application (she will also let you know how to apply for it)

2 - Canada Soccer Grassroots Course - Theory Module (online 1.5-2 hours)

  • the course you require is based on the age group you are coaching (U6-U8 is the Fundamentals Course, U9-U12 is the Learn to Train course, and U13 and older is the Soccer for Life course)
  • click HERE to purchase an access key for one of these online courses
  • click HERE to use the access key to begin your online course

*Please note: the theory module MUST be completed before the practical component is done in person

3 - Canada Soccer Grassroots Course - Practical Module (in person - approximately 4-6 hours)

  • the course you require is based on the age group you are coaching (U6-U8 is the Fundamentals Course, U9-U12 is the Learn to Train course, and U13 and older is the Soccer for Life course)
  • sign in to Coach Centre to find a course and register
  • Please note: the theory module MUST be completed before the practical component is done in person

4 - Make Ethical Decisions course (online or in person - 4 hours)

  • click HERE to see available workshops, then contact the host to register
  • if you attend an online course, you will have to complete an evaluation afterward in the NCCP - The Locker website

5 - Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders course (online - 2.5 hours)

  • must be renewed every 5 years
  • if you completed it for another sport (e.g. hockey), you can transfer your certificate so you don't have to take it again
  • click HERE to take the course or transfer your certificate

6 - Making Head Way Module (online - 90 minutes)

  • login to NCCP - The Locker website
  • click on the E-Learning tab at the top, then pick the Multi-Sport list and look for the NCCP Making Head Way course

7 - Emergency Action Planning Module (online - 15 minutes)

  • login to NCCP - The Locker website
  • click on the E-Learning tab at the top, then pick the Multi-Sport list and look for the NCCP Emergency Action Plan course

8 - Rule of Two Module (online - 20 minutes)

  • login to NCCP - The Locker website
  • click on the E-Learning tab at the top, then pick the Multi-Sport list and look for the Understanding the Rule of Two course
